Today's storytime theme focused on art and colors.

I absolutely love Karent Beaumont's I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! It is such a fun book to sing during storytime.  I had the kids point to their necks, hands, feet, etc. as I sang about them.

The illustrations for What If...are like a hug for your eyes.  They are just beautiful and comforting.  I also love the three page spread that includes a pink unicorn.

I had the kiddos help Harold draw various items from the story.  Next time, I'm busting out the purple construction paper and crayon Ellison die so that the kiddos can have their very own purple crayon.

Action Rhymes
Color Rhyme
Credit: Librionyian; Jean Warren; adapted by N. Lawton

If your clothes have any red,
Put your finger on your head.

If your clothes have any blue,
Put your finger on your shoe.

If your clothes have any green,
Wave your hand so you’ll be seen.

If your clothes have any yellow,
Wiggle around like Jell-O.

If your clothes have any brown,
Turn your smile into a frown.

If your clothes have any black,
Put your hands behind your back.

If your clothes have any white,
Clap your hands with all your might.

Green Says “Go!”
Credit: Librionyian; King County Library System

Green means “GO!” Go! Go! Go! (march in place)
Yellow means “Slow.” Slow… slow… slow. (march in slow motion)
Red means “STOP!” (stop suddenly)
Go! Go! Go! (move fast!)
Slow… slow… slow. (move slowly)
Stop!

5 Little Crayons
Credit: Librionyian

Five little crayons standing in a row (hold up 5 fingers)
The first one said, “I’m red, you know!” (wiggle the fingers as you talk about them)
The second one said, “I’m green like a tree”
The third one said, “I’m blue like the sea”
The fourth one said, “I’m yellow as the sun”
The fifth one said, “Being purple is fun!”
Five little crayons, happy as can be (hold up 5 fingers)
Coloring pictures with you and me (point to person and then self)

Red, Red, Red
Credit: Lego Librarian

Red, red, red, touch your head.
Blue, blue, blue, tie your shoe.
Brown, brown, brown, touch the ground.
White, white, white, take a bite.
Black, black, black, touch your back.
Gray, gray, gray, shout hooray!
