GOAL 5: COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION & ADVOCACY

Effectively communicate and collaborate to deliver, market, and advocate for library and information services
Outcome 5C: Negotiate group dynamics in pursuit of a common goal

In LIS 724 Integrating Technology into Programming, we were assigned groups and tasked with developing an inquiry-based lesson.  We relied heavily on Google Chat to discuss, develop, and plan our lesson asynchronously while we each juggled both our academic and ongoing professional responsibilities.  We used Google Slides and Google Docs to plan our lesson, design our slides, and create our handouts.  Google’s collaboration features made it possible for us to share our ideas with each other even though our schedules prevented all of us from meeting at one time.

I have continued to take advantage of the excellent collaboration tools that Google offers.  When I have been the lead for a special program, I have found it difficult to schedule an in-person meeting since we have staff at three separate locations.  Creating Google Docs has enabled my colleagues and I to share our ideas and plans for our programs.
